How to Persuade Others

Persuading others is a skill everyone wishes they had. Some people are able to persuade others with no problem. They are able to persuade the other person that it was their idea, solution, recommendation, etc. The other person does not even realize they were persuaded. This article will give you a few tips on how you can persuade others.

Instructions

1. Do your homework. Conduct enough research on the idea, solution, recommendation, etc to know the pros/cons, the good/bad. Prepare answers to questions you know will come up. Are there alternatives. What's the general public thoughts and opinions. Do you agree/disagree.

2. How will the other person benefit. You need to think of the other persons situation first. How will your idea, solution, recommendation, etc benefit them. You need to be able to see how they will benefit. Can you communicate the visual image you have in your mind on how they will benefit. Do not persuade others by telling them how you will benefit. This is about them not you.

3. Be prepared to discuss your idea, solution, recommendation for a period of time. People take time before they are persuaded to another's way of thinking. It may be a day or two, a week, a month. Be prepared to ask open ended questions. You want to hear more then a simple yes/no answer. Persuading others requires a long conversation, agreements/disagreements, give and take.

• Persuading others requires good communication skills. This includes both listening and speaking.

• People are not easily persuaded. Persuading others does require time and patience.
