Basement Storage

Its that one part of your house that you try to avoid. Basically a huge cluttered mess of things you rarely use anymore or want too see. This article will show you some ideas on storing these things so your basement or storage room is actually organized and viewable.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Boxes
  • Racks
  • Tape
  • Markers
  1. Step 1

An organized and clean storage room and/or basement can be very useful for everyone. Being able to find old things that have been in storage for years can save many people hours of hunting. Also having a storage room that is actually viewable can make yourself feel a lot better about your storage. The first step in organizing a storage room or basement is too survey what you have. Make a list of the major things that you have and where you might be able to put it.

  2. Step 2

Its important to have many boxes to put your storage in. You can get many free boxes from stores around your house or buy storage containers at stores. If you want some free, go to a grocery store and ask one of employees if they have any extra cardboard boxes in the back they were planning on getting rid of anyways. Once you have the boxes you can start organizing your storage and putting them in boxes. An example would be to get all your christmas decorations and put them in boxes and label them christmas decorations. Then, when christmas comes around, all you have to do is look for your christmas boxes in the decorations area.

  3. Step 3

Use shelves. You can save a lot of room by stacking things on shelves instead of floor. Its pretty obvious that you will save a lot more floor space by stacking items higher on shelves.

  4. Step 4

Hang tools like shovels, rakes, and what not from walls. When on the floor, they can fall over or become a jumbled mess. When hanging on walls, they are out of harms way and look a lot more organized.

  5. Step 5

Get rid of old unnecessary things. Do you really need everything you have? Consider donating old clothes and other things to stores like goodwill or having garage sales to get rid of it. Ebay is also an unwanted storage dream.
