Tuna is a fish that carries many health advantages such as promoting good cardiovascular health and providing you with a non-fatty source of protein. Tuna sandwiches are one way to prepare and serve this nutrient-packed food and while many opt to make them with mayo, this can greatly up the fat content and mask some of tuna's benefits. Things You'll Need

  • 6 oz. can of tuna
  • Medium-sized mixing bowl
  • ¼ cup non-fat sour cream
  • 1 tsp. paprika
  • 1/3 cup relish
  • Chopping knife
  • ¼ cup chopped onion
  • Spoon
  • Two slices of bread
  • Toaster

      Place tuna in a medium-sized mixing bowl.

      Add the non-fat sour cream to the tuna along with the paprika, relish and teaspoon of black pepper. Finely chop half an onion and add ¼ cup to the bowl, then whip the ingredients up well for two minutes to ensure it is mixed.

      Toast two slices of bread so that they are crispy and slightly darkened. Spread half of your tuna mix over one of your bread slices and place the other slice atop. Store leftover mix in a plastic sealable container and use within seven days.

Tips & Warnings

  • Non-fat sour cream is one option for a healthier alternative to mayo but other options you can try include hummus, avocado or a non-fat mayo substitute.

  • This is a basic recipe but you can add other spices for flavor as you desire, such as crushed red pepper, for a spicier tuna sandwich.
