Vintage fashion has a uniquely classic look that never seems to go out of style. Many stores offer the dresses and suits of the era, but finding out how to get the dramatic hair-do's of the 1940s can sometimes be a bit challenging. With a bit of practice and the following steps you will be able to create an authentic 1940s Victory Rolls hair-style to wear with your latest vintage find.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bobby pins
  • Hairbrush
  • Hairspray
  1. Step 1

Begin by parting your hair. It can be in the middle, side or extreme side, it does not matter. Take a section of one side and lift forward and up.

  2. Step 2

Place your thumb halfway up the hair and loosely wrap the hair clockwise around the thumb.

  3. Step 3

Remove your thumb from the roll of hair. Using both hands, clasp the sides of your roll and carefully wrap around until the hair-roll is resting on the head. Bobby pin in place.

  4. Step 4

Repeat on the other side. Hairspray when finished.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can curl the ends of the back of your hair, or simply leave them down straight. Victory rolls can be done very dramatically and high, or close to the head. If you are still having trouble try using a foam hair-roll, that can be found at beauty supply shops. It is harder to achieve this style with straight hair so before you begin try using a volume booster such as mousse or hot rollers.
