Fabric softener sheets can be used outside of the dryer for some common household jobs.

Dryer sheets can be used around the house for many household chores. Not only is this economical, but it's also another way to go green- Using what you already have. No longer just for the dryer, there are many ways to use them. Read on to discover ways to save yourself money by using fabric softener sheets at home.

Step 1

Replace your feather duster with a dryer sheet.

Dust with a dryer sheet. Much like the brooms on television that pick up the dust off of old wooden floors, dryer sheets work in the same way. No more spraying and waiting. Straight out of the box, these sheets make great dust cloths. Get one out of the box and go.
Step 2

Give your faucet and sink a sparkling shine.

Clean faucets and sinks with a dryer sheet. Just wet and clean. Stainless steel and chrome come to a sparkling clean shine. Remove the water stains on your sink or sink fixtures. You can use these for the bathroom or kitchen as well.
Step 3

Use to keep mosquitoes away.

Repel mosquitoes with a dryer sheet in your pocket. The next time you go outside, forget tons of mosquito bites. If you are on the patio or deck, place several sheets within a few feet of yourself. This works better than any Citronella candle I've used, and it's much cheaper as well.
Step 4

Remove the bugs from your car.

Remove the love bugs from your car with a dryer sheet. Forget all the expensive solutions and cloths. Just wet the sheet and clean love bugs right off the headlights or windshield. Discard when you are finished.
Step 5

Give Your Travel Bags a Fresh, Clean Smell

Put several in your travel bags. Somehow, when travel bags don't get used, they get a stale smell, much like a shut up home. Forget that stale smell by placing one in each travel bag. After the trip, replace the old one.
Step 6

Remove the build up from your curling iron or flat iron.

Clean your curling iron or hot iron with a dryer sheet. Hairspray and other hair products build up and the heat makes it worse. It's hard to remove with a washcloth and soap, but not with a wet dryer sheet. Just wet the sheet and clean. Discard the sheet after using it.
Step 7

Place one under each seat in your car. Instead of buying pricey car fresheners, place softener sheets in your car for a fresh smell every time you get in. As the car heats up, the fresheners release that clean smell. Replace these once every 30 days.
