Some babies teeth without any discomfort. For others teething can be a painful experience. There are ways to help when baby is having teething pain.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Counterpressure. Gently massage the gums with your clean finger. Baby might protest at the first touch but as soon as you apply pressure some of the pain will be relieved. Babies typically get their first teeth on the bottom so start there.

  2. Step 2

Walking. Carrying your baby around can distract baby and get him over the hump.

  3. Step 3

Freeze a teething ring or wet washcloth or burp rag. Some babies won’t like the cold but many will welcome its numbing effect.

  4. Step 4

Stuffed animals with sewn eyes not hard eyes and noses a baby could chew off and swallow, can help with teething. Make sure to wash them frequently.

  5. Step 5

Any plastic or rubber toys a baby can mouth can be used as a teething device. Your baby will probably use their toys to chew on anyway so make sure you provide toys that are safe and clean.

  6. Step 6

If teething pain is extreme try a numbing topical like baby orajel. Don’t use right before bed or before feeding solid food and only use a small amount when necessary.

  7. Step 7

When nothing else works, try baby Tylenol with your doctor’s permission, especially if teething is affecting your baby’s sleep.
