If your life needs an adventure, I'd like to suggest taking a year off to teach English in Japan. It's an amazing place and you'll have the adventure of a lifetime.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • a computer
  • time
  • a resume
  • a current photo
  1. Step 1

Visit the site http://www.gaijinpot.com and upload your resume. On this site, you can see typical salary information as well as apply for jobs with the click of a button once you're resume has been uploaded. It also lists some jobs that offer interviews overseas as well as phone interviews. Some jobs are also marked, "must reside in Japan."

  2. Step 2

Visit the site http://www.ohayosensei.com. This site is updated with the latest teaching jobs every 2 weeks. You can view it online or subscribe and have it mailed to your email address. Contact information is given, however, on this site, you cannot upload your resume or apply for jobs directly from the site.

  3. Step 3

Visit the site http://www.metropolis.co.jp. This site has a wealth of information about things to do in Japan as well as current events. It has job listings as well. You can also register and make an ad for a job wanted position if you want to name your own job and hope for the best.

Tips & Warnings
  • Most schools are owned by Japanese people so be sure to be very polite in your emails. Language that may be standard in your country may be interpreted as rude by Japanese people.
  • Some schools will sponsor your working visa and some will not. It's very important to find out where the school you are interested in stands.
  • Japan is a VERY expensive place. Coming to Japan without first getting a job from your home country is a very BAD idea. You may find yourself waiting up to 4 weeks for your working visa to process and during that time you are not eligible to work. Also, depending on the type of working visa you get, you may have to leave the country to apply for it. Most people fly to nearby Seoul, South Korea to apply but this takes time and money. However, if you get hired for a job from your home company, they can have the visa processed and sent to your home address. I would definitely recommend that method over just showing up here.
