Where's My Baby Oil?

The use of baby oil is not just for babies these days. There are many ways in which it can be used for day-to-day remedies and solutions to make our lives function more comfortably. You might want to consider a generic bottle of baby oil as your newest household staple, saving you hundreds of dollars by not having to purchase ‘designer’ cleaners and other specialized products. Here are many different handy ways that baby oil can be used in your daily routines.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Baby Oil
  • Soft Cloth
  1. Step 1

Shave with baby oil instead of shaving gel. I find that it helps soften my dry skin, keeping it moisturized longer than lotion.

  2. Step 2

When I want to slip my rings off before I cook a meal or work in the garden, I use baby oil to help the stuck rings slide right off my fingers.

  3. Step 3

I try to take a 30-minute walk every day. When the weather is colder than normal, I rub baby oil into my skin before I go out into the cold to walk, ski, or engage in some other winter activity. The baby oil helps to insulate my body and keep me warm as I get my daily exercise.

  4. Step 4

To keep your arm or leg hair intact, rub some baby oil around a bandaid or other adhesive bandage before removing.

  5. Step 5

Should a zipper become stuck, I use a cotton ball or q-tip to help the zipper slide up and down more easily

  6. Step 6

If masking tape on a surface or a price sticker doesn't peel off as easily as it should, dab a little oil on the offending sticker, let soak into the sticker then wipe clean with a soft cloth.

  7. Step 7

I use baby oil and lemon juice mixed in a spray bottle to polish my wood furniture and accents. It also helps to keep the wood from drying out.

  8. Step 8

My necklaces always seem to tangle, but the knot easily comes out when I use a straight pin and a dab of baby oil on the knot.

  9. Step 9

Baby oil will help remove paint from your skin, and you'll do double duty by not only removing the paint, but also softening and moisturizing your skin.

  10. Step 10

Baby oil makes a great makeup remover. Dab some on a cotton ball or q-tip to remove eye shadow, liner and mascara.

  11. Step 11

Use baby oil to quiet squeaky door hinges, knockers or other squeaky hardware.

  12. Step 12

Baby oil keeps my leather bags, boots and shoes supple. Just rub generously into leather with a soft polishing cloth. It also keeps my leather goods waterproof.

  13. Step 13

When taking time out for a soothing luxurious bath, I add a couple drops of my favorite essential oil and a few squirts of baby oil to the bathwater, providing a full body moisturizer with a soothing effect.

Tips & Warnings
  • Since baby oil is mineral oil with fragrance, you could use mineral oil for any of the above.

on 9/20/2009 Thanks for the ideas! I would have never thought it would help with taking band aids off. I also liked the ideas of using it on a stuck zipper and as a makeup remover. I will have to pick some baby oil up next time run to the store. :)
5* recommended!
