Things You'll Need:
- Map
- Camera
-
Step 1
Snorkel or dive in an area where there is a protected reef. Sea turtles often take refuge in the reef area, where they can feed and be safe from predators.
-
Step 2
Look for areas where there is seaweed on the rocks and near the shore. Honu eat seaweed, also known as 'limu'.
-
Step 3
Book a trip with a well respected tour company. Many companies will take you right to where the turtles feed. You can enjoy a boat ride and then snorkel and swim with the turtles.
-
Step 4
Visit the north shore of Oahu at Laniakea beach, where the honu enjoy basking in the sun. This is a very popular one, and on most days there are opportunities to photograph the sea turtles as they bask on the beach.
-
Step 5
Rent a kayak and paddle around in areas where a reef is present. Often times sea turtles can be seen from kayaks and surf boards. Get above the water, and away from the shore, and you are almost sure to see one of these beautiful creatures.
-
Step 6
Visit Kailua Beach, Turtle Bay resort, or Waimea Bay to observe the sea turtles swimming and playing in the waves. They will not necessarily come up on the shore, but you will see them in the water.
