Step 1
This is a traditional step. Chores. Yucky, I know, but trust me. It works. First though, LISTEN! Is your mom complaining about not having the time to do the laundry? Is Dad moaning about the constant mess in the living room? Sure, doing the dishes would be easy and quick, but will it help your parents? No. Offer to do the laundry a few times a week, and tell Dad that you'd be willing to pick up the living room a bit. If you do chores that actually HELPS your parents, then they'll be more willing to raise it.

Step 2
Next, find out how much your chores are worth. If you want your parents to raise your allowance forty dollars, but all your willing to fork over is getting the mail, then get your head checked. Checking the mail is something ANYBODY in your family could do. If you are willing to clean the living room and do the laundry a few times a week, then THAT is probably worth the forty dollars you're looking for.

Step 3
Now you know what you're doing. All that's left is waiting for the right moment. Charging in while Dad is doing buisiness on the phone and feeding the baby is NOT the time to make your case. Dinnertime or during a car ride is probably better.

Step 4
Did they say no? That sucks, but tell your parents you respect their decision and that you would like them to think if over. Sometimes, parents have a lot on their mind at the moment, but they will most likely think it over. Bring it up every few weeks.
