Things You'll Need:
- vacuum
- bug spray
- lice shampoo
- garbage bags
- washer and dryer
-
Step 1
Give everyone in the home a treatment for head lice even if you have not positively identified lice in all persons. This includes both shampooing and using a bug comb to remove all louse and their nits.
-
Step 2
Remove all bedding and clothing - i.e. pillow covers, blankets, sheets, shams, pillows and any clothing they've come in contact with or that has been left on the floor, and wash them full cycle in hot water. Then dry them for at least 60 minutes on high heat. Don't forget to wash the backpack if you have one!
-
Step 3
Using a natural home head lice spray treatment spray all beds, furniture and flooring thoroughly as directed. Don't forget to spray car seats and any other cloth covered surface that the lice may have come in contact with to prevent a re-infestation.
-
Step 4
Bag up all stuffed animals or other items securely in a garbage bag if you are not able to launder them right away. If you will be leaving them bagged and not including them in your other home treatment for head lice(laundry or sprays) then keep them bagged for no less than 30 or until the items can be treated.
-
Step 5
Vacuum floors, furniture and bedding if possible and then throw away the vacuum bag. This is an important step when you are doing a full home treatment for head lice!
-
Step 6
Clean out all hair from hair brushes or combs and dispose of the hair immediately. Then place the brushes and combs in boiling water for several minutes. Repeat if desired.
-
Step 7
Repeat every 7 to 10 days or until you are sure your head lice treatment has eliminated all bugs and eggs.
