Mommy blogs can provide an outlet for dealing with all that comes with raising children; can give moms an outlet to connect with other moms near and far; and can be a lucrative work-from-home business venture. If you're wanting to try your hand at the ever-growing world of Mommy bloggers, here are a few tips to get started.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet
  • Blog account
  1. Step 1

Brainstorm a few blog posts on paper before getting started. Are you a homeschooler? Military family? Have special needs children? Raising kids vegetarian or off-grid? Or maybe, you're a mom that relies on humor to get you through the day and can share your tips with others. Whatever helps you find your unique voice, creates a theme that is interesting for you, and attract followers with interesting posts.

Check out a few other Mommy blogs for additional ideas or themes that you may want to incorporate into your blog.

  2. Step 2

Select a catchy name for your blog. 'The Mommy Diaries', 'Life Amidst the Crumbs', or something that will serve as your theme and interest others. Many Mommy bloggers create their own logos and tag lines to further create branding for their blog.

  3. Step 3

Select a blog hosting site and set up an account or profile. Two of the most popular are Blogger or Wordpress. Consider using (or setting up) a separate email address for your blog. People will want to contact you, so having an exclusive blog email prevents unnecessary cluttering of your regular account.

  4. Step 4

There are many ways to monetize your site including Amazon affiliates, Google Adsense, Commission Junction, etc. You can decide on which (if any) ads you'd like to add to your blog fairly easily.

If you would like to be contacted by companies who regularly pay Mommy bloggers to promote or review their products, be sure to put your contact info in your profile. Letting companies know you are "PR friendly" will increase your opportunities. More and more companies are recognizing the buying/advertising power of Mommy bloggers and their followers.

  5. Step 5

Once you have created your first blog post, start adding your blog to online blog directories. BlogHer.com, TheMomSalon.com, and BlogCatalog.com are just a few of the available directories. The vast majority will allow blog owners to add their site to the directory free of charge.

  6. Step 6

Advertise your blog on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace or other social networking sites to attract more readers. Many Mommy bloggers have giveaways, contests or other promotions that can be posted to these sites, creating an urgency for readers or followers to visit. Be sure to include the URL to your blog on your social network site profile.

Tips & Warnings
  • Following and commenting on other Mommy Blogs is a good way to get the same in return.
  • Blogs should be fresh! New posts are needed every 5-7 days to keep attracting readers.
