Step 1
Bargain Hunt!
High end department sales such as Bloomingdales or Macy's often have clearance sales advertising 20-40% off clearance prices. Research these sales before you go and scour the racks. You will often find some really great buys! -
Step 2
Research Sample Sales!
Have you ever heard of sample sales? Sample sales are very common in NYC. Clothes that decorate store windows, used in modelling shows, or dressed manikins are often for sale at these low profile sample sales. It's important to research locations before you go and be sure that an invitation is not necessary. These articles of clothing normally have only 1 in each size, so you have to go early and don't pass up anything that you think you'll regret later-- it probably won't be there the next day. -
Step 3
Shop Used!
Consignment shops often have designer clothing that was lightly used. Plato's Closet is a great place to go to both buy your unwanted clothing and buy something new-to-you. Someone else's "trash" can be your new "treasure." -
Step 4
Shop Discount!
Outlet-type stores like Ross or TJ Maxx often carry many designer brands. You must have the patience to go through rack by rack, but there are some goodies to be found. -
Step 5
Go Fake!
Live in NYC? Visit Canal street! The street is filled with knock off's! Who says you have to wear the real thing? No one will know the difference. Buy at a deep discount and strut your stuff.
