Here is an eco-friendly, economical recipe for making your own laundry powder. It is very easy to make, the recipe is for a small batch so you can decide if this laundry detergent is for you.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Storage container with lid
  • Cheese Grater
  • 1/2 cup grated castile soap
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup washing soda
  • 1/4 cup borax
  • essential oil of choice ( optional)
  1. Step 1

    The storage container you use must have enough space for you to shake the mix

  2. Step 2

    Castile soap is usually sold in bar form, you can also use soap flakes if you can find them. Otherwise use the cheese grater to grate a bar of castile soap, you need about 1/2 cup.

  3. Step 3

    Mix the soap flakes, baking soda, washing soda, and borax in the storage container.

    If you suffer from allergies or would prefer no fragrance you cover your container and shake.

    If you would like to add fragrance to your powder add 10 drop of essential oil of your choice.

  6. Step 6

    Shake the detergent mix every day until the essential oil is dry. If the strength of the powder is not enough for you more drops until the fragrance is strong enough for you. Remember to allow the essential oil to dry completely.

  7. Step 7

    Use 1/2 cup of this laundry powder per wash load, for extra soiled loads add 1/4 cup of oxygen bleach to the mix.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can add oxygen bleach.
  • You can also increase the amount of ingredients as needed.
  • Most of the ingredients can be found in most grocery stores.
  • Castile soap can be found at health food stores.
  • Borax and washing soda can be harsh for babies, instead use baby castile soap and a dash of baking soda.
  • If you suffer from allergies omit the essential oil.
  • Harmful if swallowed keep away from children.
