With all the expenses that come with raising children, clothing purchases seem to be one of the highest. Children grow out of things so quickly that clothing you've just bought them gets small before you know it. Shoes, shirts, and pants may last a few months when a child is little because they have such growth spurts until adolescence. Here are some tips for purchasing cheap play clothes so that the money you spend on your child's clothing isn't just money down the drain in a few months time.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Purchase play clothes at a thrift store such as the Goodwill. You'll pay less than $2.00 for most items and won't feel bad about letting your children play in the clothes and get dirty. When the clothing becomes too small, just bag them up and give them back to the Goodwill for someone else to use them as you did.

  2. Step 2

Ask friends, relatives, and co-workers for hand-me-downs. Most people are more than happy to get rid of clothing that their children won't wear anymore, especially if it means someone else will get use out of them. Take whatever clothing you get and keep bigger sizes for later when your child grows more. You'll be glad you did.

  3. Step 3

Shop garage sales for cheap play clothing. Many garage sales will sell a small garbage bag full of clothing for a set amount like $5 or $10. Think of all the children's clothes you can fit into a garbage bag for that price! You could even find play shoes if your lucky. Check your local newspaper for sales, days, and times.

  4. Step 4

Check out Craigslist online for cheap children's clothing. Many people use Craigslist much like a garage sale ad and are willing to sell items for super cheap. Remember that you will probably have to go and pick up the clothes yourself since most people on Craigslist won't ship items to you (safety issues). See the list below for resource links.

  5. Step 5

Many churches have charity clothing that they give away or sell for funding for the church. Ask your local church if they have any clothing to sell or give away. Usually, these clothes are held for low income families and the homeless, but with the way the economy is right now, we could all use a little help. And, you're not taking away from anyone if you offer to give a little money to the church for the clothing.

  6. Step 6

By used children's clothing in lots from eBay. Buying clothing used and in lots can be extremely cheap and affordable. Many eBay sellers who are auctioning off used children's clothing are just looking to get rid of them and some may take less than what they are asking. Often times, you can get a lot of shirts and pants together from eBay for very cheap. You could also ask sellers if they have an imperfect clothing not listed that they would be willing to give away and you could offer to pay the shipping costs.
