Whether you are thinking about getting a pet tree frog or want to show your pet to someone else, it is important to know how to pick up a pet frog in a way that is both safe and fun for everyone. Remember that unlike a frog caught outside, a tree frogs is more delicate and should be handled with care.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A nearby place to wash your hands.
  • Spray bottle with clean, non-chlorinated water.
  1. Step 1

Wash your hands in warm water, be sure to rinse ALL soap off.

  2. Step 2

Using your pointer finger and thumb, gently grasp the frog behind it's front legs, around it's sides. As you lift the frog up, slide your other hand under it, palm facing up so that the frog has a secure place to sit while you move it out of it's cage.

  3. Step 3

If the frog grabs onto your pointer finger and thumb with it's front feet, pulling itself into a seated position, use your other hand to create a "cup" so that the frog feels secure as you move it.

  4. Step 4

Continue to hold the frog until you are done, or it becomes too restless to control. Use both hands to create a cup and place the frog gently back into it's cage.

  5. Step 5

Wash you hands with soap and warm water.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the tree frog is asleep, be sure to wake it up first. Try gently stroking its back or head until it opens it's eyes. Suddenly picking up a sleeping tree frog will startle it and make it want to jump away from you.
  • Keep the tree frog moist by spraying it with the spray bottle. Be careful not to make the frog too wet or it will become slippery, making it easier to escape!
  • Once you have the tree frog out of it's cage, make sure you know how to properly handle it.
