Fix A Hole in a Hammock

Anyone who has a hammock knows that they can be very relaxing ways to spend the summer outdoors. And with proper care and storage, hammocks will usually last for years. But even well cared for hammocks will eventually need small repairs, especially if they get a lot of use. You can hire someone to restring your hammock, but there is really no need to when you can made small repairs yourself. Here is how to fix a hole in a hammock.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hammock
  1. Step 1

If you notice a strand or two poking out from some of the strings, tuck them back into the string. These minor stings don't impact the strength of the hammock. However, they can snag on zippers, shoes and buckles leading to much greater future damage.

  2. Step 2

At the first sigh of a broken string, attempt to tie both ends of the string back together. You may need to intentionally cut the string before it gives way.

  3. Step 3

If the string won't tie back together, then tie each end of the string to the closest string to it. Try to tie it close to a knot or weave for strength purposes. It won't look perfect, but it should last you a long time.

  4. Step 4

Finally, try to determine why the hammock is fraying or breaking. Make sure not to leave it outside in the rain. Also don't leave it out year round, unless you are using it. Don't allow it to mildew, and store it in a cool dry place, preferably hanging.
