Use what you have in your cupboards for this easy salad dressing recipe.

In these tough economic times, many people realize that packaged foods like manufactured salad dressings are expensive and full of preservatives. It is easy and quick to make inexpensive salad dressings at home with oils, vinegars and spices commonly found in most home pantries. This is also good for people who are dieting because what goes into the salad dressing can be easily controlled. This recipe can be doubled or tripled and will keep in the refrigerator for a very long time.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 glass jar
  • ½ cup oil
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ½ teaspoon of each spice of your choice
  1. Step 1

Find a glass jar with a tight fitting lid. This can be any type of small jar, such as one that used to hold jelly or honey. Don't pick a jar that is too large or it will be hard to pour from.

  2. Step 2

Add the oil to the jar. This can be vegetable oil, canola oil, or olive oil.

  3. Step 3

Add the vinegar and lemon juice to the oil in the jar. Do not use white vinegar. Cider vinegar is inexpensive and works well. Balsamic vinegar is fabulous. If you like or have fancy fruit flavored vinegars like grapefruit or raspberry, this is the time to try them out.

  4. Step 4

Add the sugar and spices to the mixture in the jar. Use the spices that you like. Try parsley, ground black pepper, celery seed or even a clove of garlic.

  5. Step 5

Shake the jar well and refrigerate. The dressing will taste better if it sits overnight.
