Step 1
Wash hair with Apple cider vinegar (see my ehow article) 2-4 times a week. It is a myth that black hair should only be washed once a week. The more you wash and condition the softer and healthier your hair will be.
-
Step 2
Deep conditioning your hair is essential to preventing breakage. Motions has an excellent conditioner which includes an ingredient called silica which is good for strengthening your hair. Also, try Pantene Relaxed and Natural conditioner. To deep condition with these products put a generous amount in your hair, cover with a plastic bag and place a warm towel damp towel (use a microwave to warm it up) over the plastic bag fro 15-20 minutes. Or, you can put the product in your hair, wrap tightly with a plastic bag and leave it on over night.

Step 3
Find a leave in conditioner that works, or, try the caramel treatment (see my ehow article on creating this product). The Olive Oil brand has some really good leave in conditioners. Also, if you have a problem with dryness like I do, Doo Grow products work well.

Step 4
Find a protective style! I understand not everyone likes to wear weaves however weaves and micros are an great way to give your hair a rest and protect it while it grows. If you opt not to wear weaves try a rollers set. The object is not manipulating your hair too much by combing or styling which causes breakage.

Step 5
Temporary dye for your hair. This may sound strange but I love using semi permanent dye in my hair to help with detangling. I generally go for a color that isn’t far from my own. Something about the coating on your hair makes it softer and really defines natural curls.

Step 6
Last but not least a healthy diet and exercise! A healthy body will grow healthy hair.
