Step 1
Your best bet when dealing with split ends is to avoid them as much as possible from the start. Try to avoid using heat on your hair such as blow dryers, straightening, and curling irons. Also avoid too many chemicals in your hair. Let your hair be natural as much as possible and you'll see less split ends.
-
Step 2
If you already have split ends, there are a few other things that can be done, starting with controlling tangles. Try not to brush your hair constantly. Use a wide-toothed comb instead. It will cause less breakage in your hair and the tangles will come out easier.
-
Step 3
When shampooing and conditioning your hair, avoid using hot water. Use lukewarm water instead and leave the conditioner in your hair for about three minutes. When lathering, try to keep your hair straight instead of piled up on top of your head. This will cause more tangles which can cause more problems with your split ends.
-
Step 4
When towel drying your hair use the towel to pat dry your hair instead of clumping it all up and tugging at it. The key here is to be gentle to your hair.
-
Step 5
If you must use hair dye or other hair chemicals, take a break in between dyes and try not to use hair product everyday. This takes out all of the natural moisture in your hair and can cause more long-term problems.
-
Step 6
If you find that your hair still looks unhealthy, your best bet is to go to your local salon and get the split ends trimmed. Sometimes you just have to eliminate the problem altogether and splint ends are not always something that can be fixed by yourself. After getting a cut, be sure to take proper care of your hair to prevent future splint ends as much as possible!
