Things You'll Need:
- Dyson vacuum
-
Step 1
Stand your vacuum upright and situate yourself behind the handle. Look directly down over the top of your vacuum. You will see a button that looks like it has a minus sign in the middle of it. This is the power button.
-
Step 2
Plug in your Dyson and step on the front of the base while pulling the handle back toward you. Then push the power button and move the vacuum along the carpet to pick up dirt and debris.
-
Step 3
See if your vacuum has a brush control button. It will sit right next to the power button and have an image of a brush bar (the bar on the bottom of the vacuum that spins) on it. If yours has one, push the button to make the bar stop spinning. Now you can vacuum throw rugs without worrying about them getting snagged. This works for wood floors too.
-
Step 4
Pull the hose out of your vacuum. Directly behind the power button you will see the quick draw button, which will be in the accent color of your vacuum. It has seven circular ridges on it. Push back on the button and pull your Dyson's handle up. Note that you must have the cord unwrapped for this to work.
-
Step 5
Keep pulling up on the handle until the metal tube pops out. The suction will automatically transfer from the vacuum's base to the hose so you can clean upholstery and tight spots like the seams of your stairs. Stick the attachments on the end of the hose as needed.
-
Step 6
Empty the dirt canister. Push back on the button with the icon of a padlock on it to remove the canister. Hold it over the garbage can and pull up on the trigger to empty it. You'll want to do this each time the dirt reaches the "Max" line, which is printed on the front of the canister.
