How to Control Remote Access

With the Remote Access feature, which is included with the Windows operating system, you can allow other PC users to connect to your computer and assist you with issues or projects. Before using Remote Access, you must control the application by enabling it and allowing it through your computer's firewall.

Things You'll Need:

  • PC running Windows XP or later

    Enabling Remote Access

  1. Step 1

    Log on to your computer with an administrator account.

  2. Step 2

    Open the Start menu, right-click on the "My Computer" icon and choose "Properties."

  3. Step 3

    Go to the "Remote" tab at the top of the window.

  4. Step 4

    Check the box next to "Allow Remote Assistance Invitations."

  5. Step 5

    Click "Apply" to save the settings and enable Remote Access.

  6. Configuring Windows Firewall

  7. Step 1

    Open the Start menu and click on the "Control Panel" icon.

  8. Step 2

    Double-click on the "Windows Firewall" control panel icon.

  9. Step 3

    Go to the "Exceptions" tab at the top of the window.

  10. Step 4

    Check the box next to "Remote Assistance" to allow the program through your computer's firewall.

  11. Step 5

    Click "OK" to save the firewall settings.
