How to Play a Karaoke CD

Karaoke is a form of entertainment that began in Japan in the 1970s. Karaoke songs are musical tracks without vocals. Karaoke CDs are played on a machine or by a computer with a CD-ROM drive that reads karaoke format (CD+G, or CD+Graphics). The CD+G format embeds lyrics that scroll across a screen. There are many sing-along discs on the market, but unless they are CD+Gs, there will be no scrolling lyrics. Learn how you can play karaoke discs on your computer or a machine.

Things You'll Need:

  • Karaoke machine or CD-ROM drive that reads CD+Gs Karaoke software Karaoke CD
  1. Step 1

    Purchase a karaoke machine or a CD-ROM drive that reads CD+Gs. For a CD-ROM drive to read CD+G format, the CD-ROM drive must be able to read and write subchannel data.

  2. Step 2

    Get and install karaoke software for your computer. Make sure the software will recognize your CD-ROM drive's capability to read CD+Gs.

  3. Step 3

    Insert a karaoke CD into your karaoke machine or into your CD-ROM drive.

  4. Step 4

    Press the "play" button. If the karaoke software doesn't automatically play on your computer when you insert the disc, open the program manually and then click on the "play" button or command.
