Wrap Hair at Bedtime

The idea behind wrapping the hair at night is to protect it while you sleep. This is essential for preventing hair breakage which can result from hair rubbing against your pillowcase especially if it is not satin. This also helps in making the hair manageable in the morning. Once you awake you can unwrap the hair with a comb or brush lightly flat iron or curl and begin your day. I will provide you with step by step instructions for wrapping the hair at night.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Comb
  • Brush
  • Scarf or Satin Cap
  1. Step 1

First apply some kind of protectant to the hair (moisturizer). This can be of your preference and seal (please see tips for the process of sealing) it with oil. I prefer to use moisturizer and I seal with extra virgin olive oil. By sealing with oil you lock in the moisturizer.

  2. Step 2

Next comb the hair into the style that it will be worn. For example I wear my hair with a part to the right side so I comb my hair down to get this style. Begin by wrapping the longer side by combing toward the back and around the head being sure to put a finger at the crown of the head so that the hair on top is flat. Once hair has reached the opposite side of the head continue to comb the remainder of the hair in a circular motion until no hair is left hanging.

  3. Step 3

Secure the hair with bobby pins or hair clips that will hold in place. I generally like to use one for the front, two on the sides and one in the back. Once hair is secure you can apply a satin wrap/cap or both items by placing the satin wrap on first and then the cap on the top of it. This is a good back up should satin cap come off during your sleep you still have the satin wrap protecting your hair. Then it's SWEET DREAMS!

Tips & Warnings
  • Sealing with oil (putting a small amount of oil into the palms of your hands and then applying to hair)
