How to Make a Bongo Board
A good balance board is an invaluable training tool for any aspiring skater. With a central bar to help you balance, a bongo board is the cream of the balancing crop, and with a little bit of woodworking and some free time, you can build your own bongo board, sized to match your skateboard.
Things You'll Need
- Skateboard
- 1-foot-long, 6-inch-diameter wooden cylinder
- 1-inch thick plywood
- Lathe
- Chisel
- Liquid nails adhesive
- Jigsaw
- Pencil
Instructions
-
-
1
Trace the shape of your skateboard onto the plywood once, and the shape of the four inches on the front and rear ends of the board once more each.
-
2
Cut the skateboard shape with the jigsaw.
-
-
3
Cut the end pieces by cutting around the pencil outline of your board, then completing the cuts with a horizontal cut. The end pieces should resemble D's without the centers cut out.
-
4
Using the liquid nails, attach the end pieces to the underside of the full-board piece of plywood and leave to sit.
-
5
Cut a 1-inch-wide strip of plywood to fit snugly between the two end pieces.
-
6
Attach the strip to the underside of the board, between the end pieces and running along the center of the board, creating an H-like shape on the underside of the board in conjunction with the two end pieces.
-
7
Use the lathe to carve a 1-inch-deep, 1-inch-wide groove around the center of the cylinder.
-
8
Lay the cylinder on the ground, and place the bar on the underside of the board into the cylinder's groove.
-
9
Stand with one foot on either side of the cylinder and attempt to balance without either side of the board touching the ground.
