Instructions

  1. Tearing Down a Shed

    • 1

Contact your local building department and find out if you need a permit to demolish a shed. You need to get the legalities out of the way first so you don't get cited and fined later.

    • 2

Disconnect any electrical service that runs to the shed you're going to demolish. Basically, you'll need to shut off the power to the main electrical box. Locate and remove the breaker for the power in the shed. Remove the electrical wires that run from the breaker box to the wall the box is in. Turn the main power back on.

    • 3

Put on a hard hat and safety goggles. Demolish a shed by starting with the roof. It usually doesn't matter what corner you start at. But, if a portion of the roof has a hole in it, or is otherwise weakened, that's a good place to start. Push against a corner of the roof where it meets the top of the wall with the backhoe bucket. Keep pushing until that area falls in. Continue to push the roof in to demolish a shed as far as the bucket will reach. Then, move the backhoe loader over (as many times as needed) to reach/push the shed roof until it's fallen completely in.

Use the backhoe bucket to push the walls of the shed in to demolish it. Start at the top and work your way down. Break up the roof and the wall sections a little after you push them down. This will help make cleanup easier.

    • 5

Park the dump truck near the site where you demolished the shed. Scoop up the debris with the backhoe bucket to clean up the site. If a floor or foundation remains, break it up with the bucket. Then, scoop it up to dispose of it, too.

    • 6

Hold an industrial magnet while you walk over the demolition area. This magnet has a strong pull. It will pick up nails, bolts, nuts screws, hinges and other metallic debris.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure the area is cleared of children, pets and other obstacles before you demolish a shed.
