Learn to Use a Vaporizer

Vaporizers are used to change a solid into a gas so it can be inhaled. Vaporization is generally used as a healthier alternative to smoking---the solid material, like an herb, tobacco or marijuana, is heated in a vacuum and turned into a vapor. Vaporizers do not create carcinogens and produce far lower amounts of carbon dioxide than smoking does. Vaporizers range from fairly inexpensive handheld models to more expensive digital versions.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a quarter-sized amount of the herb, tobacco or marijuana in the herb grinder.

    • 2

Screw the lid on the herb grinder and twist back and forth for about 30 seconds. Once you feel no resistance as you twist the lid, stop and open the grinder. Although you want to grind the herb into smaller pieces, do not grind into a powder or dust---overground herbs do not work as effectively in the vaporizer.

    • 3

Pour the ground herb into the vaporizer. Place it into the glass or plastic capsule part.

    • 4

Plug in the vaporizer and heat to 392 degrees Fahrenheit for ten minutes. Steam will begin to come out of the hollow tube.

    • 5

Inhale the steam slowly and maintain a normal resting breathing rate. You will soon be able to feel the effects of the vapor.

Tips & Warnings

  • Vaporizers can be purchased online (see Resources) or at your local head shop.

  • Do not use marijuana in a vaporizer unless it has been prescribed to you by a doctor.
