Hemp is a natural fiber that can be used to make attractive bracelets, necklaces and other jewelry. Crafters can create different designs by changing the beads, the type of knots used and the color of the hemp cord. Hemp cord is inexpensive and can be found in craft shops or the craft section of department stores.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hemp cord
  • Beads
  1. Step 1

Cut four strands of hemp cord. Two of the strands will be used to make the knots on the bracelet; these should be six times as long as you want your bracelet to be plus three inches. The second pair of strands will be the base around which the knots will be tied; these should be at least four inches longer than the desired length of your bracelet.

  2. Step 2

Tie the four strands together at one end, leaving about three inches above the knot. Tape the loose strings, above the knot, to a flat surface. This will make it easier for you to work with the strands. Move the two long strands to either side of the base strands. These are represented by the green and blue strands in the diagrams.

  3. Step 3

Make the first basic knot. Take the green strand and place it across the base strands and then under the blue strand. Pass the blue strand under the base strands and through the loop of the green strand. Hold the green and blue strands and pull out gently until they form a knot around the black strands.

  4. Step 4

Make the second basic knot. Take the blue strand across the base strands and under the green strand. Pass the green strand under the base strands and through the loop formed by the blue strand. Pull the blue and green strands until they form a knot.

  5. Step 5

Repeat Step 3 to make another knot.

  6. Step 6

Slide a bead onto the two black strands and let it rest against the last knot. Repeat Steps 3, 4 and 5 to make three more knots and then add another bead.

  7. Step 7

Repeat the steps above until your bracelet is as long as you wish. Tie the four strands together, leaving about three inches loose. Remove the tape and trim all ends.

  8. Step 8

Fasten the bracelet to your wrist by tying the loose ends together.

Tips & Warnings
  • To make a spiral bracelet, use just one of the basic knots. This will form knots on one side of the bracelet and create spirals down the length of the bracelet.
