Recover Lost Video Files

If you act quickly enough, you can use a file recovery software program to reconstruct a video file that was accidentally deleted from your computer. That's because when you empty the Recycle Bin on your computer, it doesn't actually delete the file but instead frees up a portion of the hard drive to be overwritten by other data later.

Tips & Warnings
  • In the Windows Vista operating system, you might not be able to open the file recovery utility normally. Instead you will need to right-click on the program's icon and then click on "Run as Administrator." Make sure that you immediately stop creating new files or deleting old ones as soon as you realize that the video file has been accidentally deleted. If you continue to use your computer normally, the sector of your hard drive that contained the video file will be written over and your file will be lost forever.
