Your squash racket's string plays a central part in your game, since the slightest problem can throw off your shot. The type of string and its tension also can make a big difference. Restringing your racket once or twice a year is recommended.

Instructions

    • 1

Invest in a good stringing machine, such as the Eagnas DEN3600.

    • 2

Choose the type of string you want. Thin strings are more powerful but less durable.Thick strings are the opposite. String gauge is the factor that determines the thickness of the string. Choose gauge 17 or 18. Fibretex strings with a gauge of 17 are known for durability and ball control.

    • 3

Determine the string tension that suits you. Tighter strings give more ball control, and loose strings provide more power. Tension set in the 20- to 40-pound range is usually recommended.

    • 4

Mount the racquet in the stringing machine. Clamp the head and neck so the racquet can't move.

    • 5

String the vertical strings. Measure 10 feet of the string and start stringing from the first vertical hole on the head of the racquet. Move down the neck and then back up. Clamp the string. Do the same for the other 20 feet of the string. Move the clamp from head to neck as you do the stringing to avoid any slack. When all the stringing is done, tie a firm knot and unclamp. Trim any excess string.

    • 6

String the horizontal strings. Insert string into the horizontal holes and string in and out across the racket. Apply the right tension and clamp as you did with the vertical strings. After stringing the final row, tie a knot, unclamp and trim any excess.
