When wearing cornrows in your hair, it may seem nearly impossible to get them clean without ruining the braid or causing frizz. Cornrows are not meant to be washed the same way you would if you were wearing your hair straight, without the braids. If done properly, cornrows can be washed without causing frizz, fly-away hairs, and without completely undoing the braids.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Shampoo
  • Hair net
  • Satin wrap, stocking cap, or pillowcase
  • Water
  1. Step 1

Place a net on your head covering your cornrows.

  2. Step 2

Get into the shower and completely wet your head. Squeeze about a dime-sized amount of shampoo into your hand.

  3. Step 3

Press the shampoo into the hair net so that it gets through to the cornrows. Gently press the shampoo onto the cornrows as much as possible.

  4. Step 4

Through the net, thoroughly rinse the cornrows.

  5. Step 5

Remove the net and pat dry the hair using a soft towel. Do not rub; rubbing causes frizz.

  6. Step 6

Add oil to the scalp so the braids and head are kept moisturized.

  7. Step 7

To keep the cornrows looking good, wear a satin head wrap or stocking cap when sleeping, or sleep on a satin pillowcase.
