We all have jewelry. Whether its one or two special pieces or a large collection, we want it to shine and sparkle when we wear it. Here's a quick and easy way to bring back the original beauty to your gold and gemstone jewelry. I find this method is just as effective as taking my jewelry to a profession for cleaning.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Gather all gemstone and gold jewelry. They can all be cleaned at the same time. Check each piece for any loose stones or broken prongs.

  2. Step 2

Combine 1 part ammonia and 1 part water in a glass bowl. Put jewelry in bowl and allow to stand for 10 minutes. If your jewelry hasn't been cleaned in a long time you may want to increase the soaking time to about 20 minutes.

  3. Step 3

Rinse jewelry off under running water (make sure the sink drain is closed). Allow to dry on soft cloth or towel.

  4. Step 4

When dry, gently polish with soft cloth. Your jewelry with sparkle like new. I find that with this method you do not need any type of brush to clean with. A brush can cause scratching and can loosen stones.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure all prongs are intact and there are no loose stones before cleaning
  • Do not clean pearls or silver with this method
