Pandora.com is the most popular way to listen to and discover new music online. The appeal of the site is its simplicity: the user can create his or her own Internet radio station based his or her favorite musical styles, artists, and genres. Most people, however, never get beyond Pandora's basic options. The website allows for much more customization than most users know. Follow these simple steps to become a Pandora Power User.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A Mac or PC
  • High Speed Internet
  • Pandora.com account
  1. Step 1

Every song playing in Pandora has a "thumbs up" and a "thumbs down" button. Should a song start playing that you strongly dislike, simply click the "thumbs down" button to tell Pandora to exclude similar songs from future playlists. If you enjoy a song, clicking the "thumbs up" button tells Pandora to play similar songs in the future. These features will ensure that your radio station is completely tailored to your specific musical taste.

  2. Step 2

Click the "Menu button" between the thumbs up and thumbs down buttons to bookmark the current song for future playback, to purchase the track from iTunes or Amazon.com, to see an explanation for how Pandora selected the song for your library, or to instruct the software to refrain from playing the song for one month.

  3. Step 3

The radio stations themselves have a similar button that allow you to change the name of the station, find other users with similar tastes, or email your station to a friend.

  4. Step 4

The "station edit" option is a very powerful tool for customizing your Pandora experience. Here, you can create description of the radio station, see a history of the tracks you have rated with a thumbs up or a thumbs down, or rename the station. Most impressively, though, you are able to add other artists into the database in order to add variety to the music played. For example, a station that began as The Classic Crime Radio can be expanded to include all Christian alternative artists.

  5. Step 5

For more options, go to your profile page. Once there, you will be able to view your top-rated songs, purchase the tracks from iTunes or Amazon.com, and access an RSS feed of your recently played songs.

  6. Step 6

If you are a blogger and would like to display this information on your personal website, simply click the "Blog" link in the upper left corner. Pandora has created ready-made sidebar widgets for a variety of blogging platforms. Simply copy the code into your website's sidebar.

  7. Step 7

Pandora also allows you to show off your listening habits on Facebook. On your Facebook profile page, click "Settings" and then click the Pandora button. Enter the information and Pandora will automatically feed your latest played tracks to your Facebook profile.

  8. Step 8

Finally, many people track their listening habits with Last.fm. Pandora does not specially have an option for this in its settings, but PandoraFM will take the songs played on Pandora and track them on Last.fm.
