There are a number of ways to get natural blonde highlights in your hair. With repeated use, these recipes will help you get natural blond highlights! Note that blond hair dye removes color from your hair - so many of these could, over time, damage your hair. If you notice your hair looking damaged, stop treatment!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Chamomile tea
  • Lemon juice
  • Oil
  • Rhubarb
  1. Step 1

Put 2 tablespoons lemon juice in one cup of water. Spritz on hair. This recipe works best before going out in the sun. It's not necessary to use fresh lemon juice.

  2. Step 2

Put 1/4 cup of rhubarb root and 3/4 cup of the stems in 2 cups water. Bring to boil, turn off heat, cover and let sit for one day. Strain the liquid into a container, spray onto hair and leave for 30 minutes before rinsing.

  3. Step 3

Put 1 cup chamomile tea into 1 cup water. Bring to boil, turn off heat and let cool overnight. Strain the tea mixture and spray into hair. For faster results, apply before going into the sun.

  4. Step 4

Massage oil into hair and go into sun. Olive oil is preferable, but any will do. Make sure to wear sunscreen on the rest of your body! Just like the oil that people historically used to get tan, this will intensify the sun's natural bleaching. Naturally, shampoo thoroughly after use - the oil will also help act as a deep conditioner to sooth damaged hair.

Tips & Warnings
  • The sun is a great natural helper to get lighter highlights
  • Many of these natural bleaches will bring out reddish or copper tones in darker hair
  • Lightening hair can damage it. If you notice that your hair is looking frazzled or otherwise damaged, stop treatment and begin using deep conditioners.
