You may need your IP address on your windows computer for setting up a router, connecting through FTP, sending files, and other forms of internet communication. Using this how-to, you will be able to find your IP address quickly!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • computer with windows operating system
  • That's it!
  1. Step 1

    First, this how-to is only for computers (laptops or desktops) with the windows operating system. Also, in order for this to be useful, your computer should be hooked up to the internet or network - either wirelessly or wired.

  2. Step 2

    Next, press the "start" button, typically located in the lower-left corner of the screen.

  3. Step 3

    Now, press "Run." This should bring up a dialog box with an area for text entry. Within this box, type "CMD" and press "Enter."

  4. Step 4
     

    This will bring up the Command Prompt, which is typically a window with a blue or black background. The image attached shows something similar to what you will see. In this window, type in "ipconfig" and press "Enter"

  5. Step 5

    This will provide you with a few results - one of which will be your IP address. Your IP address should be similar in the form to "123.456.7.89"
