How to Host Your Own Ventrilo Server

Ventrilo is voice-conferencing software that allows people to communicate in live voice over the Internet. To use Ventrilo, you have to have client software installed on your computer. The client software is used to log into a server. You can rent a Ventrilo server from a host or you can create your own server. The steps that follow will guide you through hosting your own Ventrilo server.

Installing Ventrilo Server

1. Open your web browser and then go to http://www.ventrilo.com. Click Download, then select the Server Program software to download.

2. Read the Export Control Laws and the Warnings. If you agree to the terms, click "I Agree" to launch the download.

3. In the File Download dialog, click "Save" and then browse to a folder in which to receive the downloaded executable. Click "Save."

4. Once the download completes, navigate to the folder in which the executable was saved. Double-click to launch the executable file.

5. After the executable finishes, there will be an entry in your Start menu called VentSrv. Select "VentSrv" to open its menu, then click the "Ventrilo Server" menu option. A console window application will open. The server will run in this menu.

Tips & Warnings

• This basic install will start the server using default settings. These default settings should be adequate for most users' needs. There is no GUI interface for the server. All output will occur in the console window application.

• As long as you abide by the terms of the license agreement, the public version of Ventrilo server can be used without a license fee. In order to use the Pro version of Ventrilo server, an extensive application process must be performed with no guarantee that the application will be accepted.
