Step 1
Say Thank You in Your Own Way
Don’t be afraid to use your own wording to make it more personal. For instance, you might tell the giver that (of a wedding shower gift), “We can’t wait to use the gift card to purchase a lamp we’ve been “eyeing” for some time.” Perhaps follow by saying, “It will look wonderful and perfectly match the colors in our living room!” -
Step 2
Be Sincere with Your Words
People can sense when you are giving a genuine compliment. Express to the gift giver exactly why you liked receiving the gift card. Be honest and tell them what items you spent (or will spend) it on. One thank you card from the heart is more well-received than a thousand expensive generic cards. -
Step 3
Use “Action Words” in the Message
Tell the giver of the card how you have actively used the purchased item(s). Let’s say that you bought a spring form pan because you enjoy baking in your spare time. Be detailed by saying that you “used the gift card yesterday to make a yummy, homemade cheesecake for a family gathering.” -
Step 4
Check for Spelling and Grammatical Errors
Be careful with this one! It is important that you spell the gift giver’s name correctly. This will convey sincerity along with the rest of your message. If you are not sure on how to spell a name, look it up in the phone book. You could also call and ask a relative with the same last name. How do you spell Kucharski, again? Just kidding. -
Step 5
3 Thank You Card Examples (for gift cards)
Dear Community First Baptist,
We are very pleased to receive the gift card. It will allow us purchase a new gas grill for our upcoming barbecue! Thank you so much for your kindness.
Sincerely,
Jamie and Robert
Dear Elizabeth and Donald,
Thank you for the thoughtful gift card. I will be using it to purchase some chairs for the patio furniture. I truly appreciate the help!
Love,
Bethany
Dear Karen,
We appreciate the gift card for the baby. Tomorrow we will be shopping for some black patent leather shoes. Our Baby Jane needs a new pair to match her little Sunday dress. Thanks again!
Blessings,
Carrie, Dewayne, and Jane Parsons

on 7/22/2009 Even if you don't have the "right" words, it's always better to send a thank you card; too many people forget that these days. Good tips!
