The JPEG (.jpg) file type was originally created by and named for the Joint Photographic Experts Group. JPEGs are compressed files optimized for use in graphics. Because of the compression, JPEGs are of lesser quality when compared to a larger file type, such as TIFF or RAW. The date and other properties may easily be edited on JPEG files with a few simple steps.
Step 1
Right-click the Windows "Start" button and select "Explore" to open Windows Explorer.

Navigate to the JPEG file to edit.

Right-click on the JPG file.
Step 4
Select "Properties" from the context menu.
Step 5
Click the "Details" tab.
Step 6
Locate the "Date Taken" entry under the Origins heading on the Details page.
Step 7
Click on the right side of the "Date Taken" label. The field will highlight and click the down arrow on the date drop-down box to expose a calendar.
Step 8
Click on the desired date and click the "Apply" button.
Step 9
Make any additional edits to properties on the Details page by clicking to the right of the field labels. Click "Apply" after each property edit to save.
