The way you look influences how people perceive your weight. The best way to look skinny instantly is to make over your appearance by following these simple dress guidelines.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Wear clothes that fit you properly. If you wear clothes that are too small, you will look fatter-not thinner-because the tight, revealing clothes will accentuate every curve, bulge, and roll on your body. If you wear clothes that are too big, you will look fatter too because your body will be hidden underneath a mass of loose, sagging fabric that gives your body no shape. If it is hard to find something that fits right, get your clothes tailored.

  2. Step 2

Wear clothes that accentuate the tiniest part of your body, such as your natural waist or under your bust line, and that de-emphasize the bigger parts. Buy clothes with stitching, patterns, or flair (bows, belts, wraps) to draw attention toward the area you want. Wear skirts that flare away from the body and wide-legged pants to look slimmer at the hips and thighs.

  3. Step 3

To de-emphasize a large chest, make sure you are wearing the correct size bra with plenty of support. Don't wear plunging necklines or tight shirts that allow your bust to spill out. Do wear longer tops and jackets to make the torso look thinner and balanced. Always fit your clothes to your bust, even if you have a skinny waist, because you can always get your clothes tailored.

  4. Step 4

To balance a pear shape, make a small chest look larger and more proportioned to the rest of your curves. Emphasize the bust with shrugs and other cropped jackets, bands and ties under the bust line, long V-necks, and patterns and flair on the chest area.

  5. Step 5

Wear an outfit in just one color or pattern instead of splitting up your body with different colors and patterns. Dark, solid colors and tame patterns work best because they hide unwanted curves better than bright colors and loud patterns do and they make you look taller.

  6. Step 6

Looking taller also makes you look thinner. If you are short, wear heels (without ankle straps) and skirts or dresses that hit you at the top of the knee to elongate the legs. Make sure shirts and jackets do not go past your hips or else your torso will look long and your legs will look really short.

Tips & Warnings
  • Bloating can make you look and feel fat regardless of your weight. To prevent bloating, drink lots of water, eat foods high in fiber, eat slowly, and exercise, or at least move around frequently instead of sitting all day. Eliminating bloating gives you the appearance of having lost belly fat.

  • Do not wear horizontal stripes. Wear vertical stripes instead to look tall and skinny.

on 7/17/2009 These tips are all true, and they work. How do I know? Because every single time I go somewhere and get weighed, they always look confused with they have to adjust the scale by about 10lbs more than they expected. A few nurses have even commented on it. I don't look skinny, but I definitely look skinnier than what I actually am. The bra tip is a great one too; I'm large on top, and wearing the right bra has made a major difference. 5*
