If you are going to play guitar, no matter what kind, you have to know the power chord. The power chord is a rock and roll staple. This chord is very easy to play and can be played anywhere on the E and the A string. This article will show you how to play the power chord:

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Guitar
  1. Step 1

First take your pointer finger and place it any where on the E or the A string. Remember, it can be played on any fret of the E or the A string.

  2. Step 2

Then place your second finger a string higher and 2 frets higher than your first finger. For example, if you place your first finger on the 4th fret of the E string, than you place your second finger on the 6th fret of the A string.

  3. Step 3

Then you place your third finger on the same fret as your second finger but a string higher. If your second finger was on the 6th fret of the A string, then you place your third finger on the 6th fret of the D string. Strum, and you have played a power chord!

Tips & Warnings
  • You can do this chord on any fret of the E and A strings. Try different frets to see which you like best.
