Instructions

  1. Prepare Surface Before Painting

    • 1

Thoroughly clean the counter top before painting. Use a mild soapy cleaner to remove all dirt, grease, food, and grime from the counter top. Wipe dry with a clean cloth. Place drop cloths on the floor next to the base of the cabinet.

    • 2

For paint to adhere, rough up the surface of the counter top with 120-grit sandpaper. Do not apply heavy pressure to the sandpaper. Applying too much pressure to the paper will cause deep scratches in the surface of the counter top.

    • 3

Wipe the dust from of the counter top with a clean cloth when you are finished sanding. With painter's tape, cover the edge of the sink where it meets the counter top. Do not allow the tape to lap over onto the counter top. This will create missed areas in the new paint. Cover the base of the faucet with your painter's tape.

    • 4

Pour a small amount of the counter top paint into your paint tray. It is best to use your paint brush to cut in around the sink and the faucet. You can cover all of the flat surfaces with your roller. When using your roller, apply the product with little pressure. The roller pad will do the work for you. If you apply the product with too much pressure it can leave roller marks.

Follow the instructions on the paint product. There are specific drying times between coats of paint. It is likely that you will need to apply a second coat of paint if you are drastically changing the color of the counter top. Most counter top paints can be re-applied within one hour.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remove the painter's tape as soon as the final coat is applied. Allowing the paint to dry before removing the tape could result in pulling off some of the paint with the tape.

  • Use proper ventilation when applying counter top paints. They are an epoxy product and emit strong vapors. If you do not re-coat within one hour, you must wait 24 hours to re-coat the counter top.
