How to Use Shrinkwrap

When creating a gift basket for a friend, package it professionally by using shrink wrap. Shrink wrapping allows you to create a tight protective seal around the item. With the heat from a hairdryer, you can shrink wrap any gift easily and affordably.

  • Roll of shrink wrap Scissors Transparent tape Hair dryer

    How To Use Shrink Wrap

  1. Step 1

    Buy shrink wrap on a roll. It is also available in bags, but those are limited in size options. Shrink wrap can be found in the craft section of many department stores.

  2. Step 2

    Measure and cut the amount amount of shrink wrap needed for the gift basket.

  3. Step 3

    Position the gift in the center of the plastic and gather around just like wrapping paper.

  4. Step 4

    Use a few small pieces of tape to hold the shrink wrap in place.

  5. Step 5

    Set the hair dryer to the hottest setting and hold it close to the shrink wrap. Move it around until the shrink wrap begins to shrink. Be careful not to overheat it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Buy heat-activated shrink wrap, not regular plastic wrap.

on 9/26/2009 I am trying to shrink wrap. How do you get the edges to seal? Every time I try, they just pull apart.
