How to Port Forward Utorrent

Port forwarding for Utorrent is a way to forward IP addresses from external addresses to internal addresses. When a client requests a connection with your internal network using a Utorrent client application, the router takes the request and sends the data and request to the machine IP specified. Linksys routers allow port forwarding for Utorrent applications.

Instructions

  1. Utorrent Application Configuration

    • 1

Open the Utorrent software located on your computer.

    • 2

Select the "Options" menu and select "Preferences."

    • 3

Click the "Connection" tab on the left side of the window.

    • 4

Ensure that the "UPnP Port Mapping" checkbox is checked.

    • 5

Take note of the IP port set in the section labeled "Port used for incoming connections." This IP address is used for the Linksys router setup.

    Router Configuration

    • 6

Open the Linksys router configuration console with your Web browser. Open a Web browser window and type in the IP of the router in the address bar.

    • 7

Enter the username and password to access your Linksys.

    • 8

Click the "Applications and Gaming" tab.

    • 9

Select "Port Range Forwarding" from the menu. This opens a list of port range listbox sections.

    • 10

Enter an application name in the first textbox and the IP to forward Utorrent requests.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the computer that is running Utorrent has DHCP enabled, the IP address of the computer may change in the future and either the forwarding IP address would need to be updated in the router or the computer could be configured with a static IP address.

  • Do not open more ports than are needed; the more ports you open, the more vulnerable you are to exploits.
