How to Record Music in High Definition With Macintosh Software
Apple's Macintosh operating system is known for its compatibility with professional recording software like Pro Tools. The Pro Tools software is for the serious musician or producer, and the company Digidesign, which produces and manufactures the software, offers three different Pro Tools systems. The first, M-powered, is for compatibility with M-Audio hardware, including USB, Firewire and PCI interfaces. Pro Tools LE is the consumer-level system that features a majority, but not all, of the features found on the profession Pro Tools HD system. For recording podcasts and regular audio, the Mac comes packed with the GarageBand recording software.

Go to your Applications folder and click on the GarageBand application. Click on the option to create a new music project. Name the project file and save it to your desktop or to a folder where can easily find the project.

Click on the "Track" option at the top of the screen and then click on the "Delete Track" option to delete the Grand Piano instrument track. Go back to the track option and click on the "New Track..." option. Choose "Real Instrument Track" to record using the built-in microphone on your Mac, or click on "Software Track" if you're using an instrument plugged into your Mac through USB or MIDI.

Click on the red record button at the bottom of the application and press it again to stop the recording. Once you are finished with your recording and editing, you can export the recording to a single MP3. Click on the "Share" option from the top menu and click on the "Export Song to Disk" option. For "Audio Settings" choose "Higher Quality" from the drop-down menu for the highest quality. Save to a location on your computer where you can easily find the file and click on the "Export" button. Your recording is now in MP3 format in the highest quality possible with the software provided on your Mac.

Purchase and install Pro Tools LE on your Mac for the highest possible recording quality. Make sure that your Mac meets all of the system requirements necessary for the Pro Tools software (see Resources below).

Read through your Pro Tools instruction manual and read online tutorials for various recording methods (see Resources below). Simply record all necessary tracks and do all of the mixing and editing that you wish to make. Once ready, use the Waves Mastering studio tool to master the track for studio quality sound.
