How to Change a Brake Light on a Nissan Versa

The bulbs used in the brake lights the Nissan Versa are low-wattage, which helps reduce the frequency of bulb changes and provides optimum lighting. Even with low-wattage bulbs, you should check your brake light bulbs every 6 months to ensure they are functioning normally (for instance, condensation can form on the interior of the bulb housing, which can damage the bulb). When a brake light does burn out, follow these simple steps to change the bulb.

Things You'll Need

• New bulb
• Socket wrench and socket set

Instructions

1. Open the trunk, pull back the interior carpet that covers the brake light housing and locate the bulb housing cover.

2. Remove the wing-nut screws holding the brake light housing cover.

3. Remove the nuts holding the lamp assembly in place with a socket wrench and pull out the lamp assembly.

4. Remove the bulb by rotating it counterclockwise and pulling the bulb out of the housing.

5. Install the new bulb. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Tips & Warnings

• When replacing the brake light on a Nissan Versa, you'll need the new bulb part number. This is located on the bottom of the old bulb.
