A MUM file is a type of file used by the Windows Update Agent in Windows Vista. The Update Agent downloads and applies Microsoft software updates -- such as operating system hotfixes, security updates and bug fix updates -- to your Windows Vista computer according to a schedule you choose. All of the files the Update Agent needs to install an update are contained in MUM files for use on Windows Vista. If your computer does not have the Windows Update Agent you will not be able to install an update MUM. However, you can manually download and install the Windows Update Agent from a knowledge base page on the Microsoft web site.
