Sweet brown rice is a soft, sticky brown rice that is sometimes called sushi rice because its texture lends itself well to sushi rolls. Although it is considered a glutinous rice because of the sticky texture, it does not contain dietary gluten and is safe for those following a gluten-free diet. Sweet brown rice has a nutty, slightly sweet flavor that also makes it ideal for desserts such as rice pudding.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 cup sweet brown rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tbsp. butter
  • Pot with a lid

Combine all ingredients in a pot and bring to a boil.

  2. Step 2

Stir to make sure all ingredients are evenly distributed and cover.

  3. Step 3

Reduce the heat and allow the pot to simmer, covered, for 45 minutes.

  4. Step 4

Remove the pot from the heat. Allow it to stand, covered, for 10 minutes.

  5. Step 5

Tips & Warnings
  • For a nuttier flavor, toast the rice first by putting it in the pan alone over medium heat, stirring frequently, for 2-3 minutes before adding the water and butter.
