The pain from a pinched sciatic nerve can range from mildly annoying to extremely painful, which is why proper treatment is essential for a fast recovery. Symptoms of a pinched sciatic nerve include a tingling sensation and numbness. Below are ways to ease the pain a speed up recovery.

  • Icy Hot cold pack
  • Ibuprofen

    Relieving the Pain

  1. Step 1

    Buy a heat/ice pack. Using a heat/ice pack for 20 minutes at a time for two hours can relieve some of the pain. Using heat in combination with ice aids in reducing inflammation.

  2. Step 2

    Purchase ibuprofen. According to Stephen H. Hochshuler, MD, using non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Naproxen and Ibuprofen relieves inflammation.

  3. Step 3

    See an acupuncturist. Acupuncture, a healing technique that uses needles relieve pain, is an alternative remedy for those who wish to avoid medication. The needles are inserted near area causing pain, and left in for a set amount of time.

  4. Step 4

    Exercise. For severe pain, going to a physical therapist and exercising can alleviate pain by releasing endorphins, a natural pain fighter.
