How to Change Hair Color in Pictures

If you have ever taken a photograph and then wished that the subject's hair was a different color, then you will be happy to know how easy it is to make this change. You could use almost any graphics program such as Paint Shop Pro or GIMP, but for this article we will use the always reliable Adobe Photoshop.

Instructions

    • 1

Upload the image you want to use to your computer.

    • 2

Open Photoshop. Select "File" and click "Open." Browse to the image you want to alter and open it.

    • 3

Select the "Pen" tool for the toolbar. Then reason for using the "Pen" tool rather than one of the other selection tool is that it gives you much finer control and the resulting path has control points that can be adjusted.

    • 4

Use the "Pen" tool to create a path outline around the hair you want to change. Use a lot of points, since you want detail and you may have to include stray locks of hair. Adjust the points if needed by clicking on them and dragging the "Tangent Bars."

    • 5

Right click on the path outline, and select "Make Selection." Then select "Image", then "Adjustments" and click "Hue/Saturation." In the dialog box that opens, click "Colorize" on, and adjust the "Hue" and "Saturation" sliders until the preview looks good. Click "OK."
