Step 1
Pull over to the side of the road and turn your emergency flashers on.
-
Step 2
You will need to know if you have a front wheel, rear wheel, or all wheel drive. Tire chains always go on the drive wheels.
-
Step 3
Tire chains have a split and non-split side. Open the non-split side and line it up with the tire. Put the chain on the tire and close it. When installing the tire chain, there is a section on the chain marked “tire side”, make sure that is facing up.
-
Step 4
Now there is a fastener on top of the tire chain. At this time, fasten the fastener.
-
Step 5
Now fasten the outer hooks. Make sure to pull on the tire chains so you can use the slack to your advantage to make fastening the hooks easier. If your tire chains came with a tensioner, fasten it to the chains at this time. I recommend doing this in your drive way or garage at first. When you are out in a dangerous environment, you will already know what to do as you have practice in your garage or drive way.
